Goalie Equipment Size Charts

Find the right size for all your hockey goalie equipment

Goalie Equipment Sizing Is Different

Goalie equipment sizing is more specialized than player equipment. Key measurements include height, weight, and ankle-to-knee or floor-to-knee measurements. For young goalies, consider buying equipment with some room to grow, but never compromise on protection and mobility.

Goalie Leg Pads Size Chart

Key Measurement: Floor to knee cap or ankle bone to center of knee cap (ATK) are the most important measurements for goalie leg pads.

How to Measure for Leg Pads:

  1. Measure from the floor to the center of your knee cap while wearing your goalie skates (Floor to Knee).
  2. Alternatively, measure from the center of your ankle bone to the center of your knee cap (ATK).
  3. Use the chart below to determine your pad size.
Goalie Height Floor to Knee (inches) ATK (inches) Pad Size (inches) Age Range
3'0" - 3'6" 10" - 11" 6" - 7" 18" - 20" 4-6 years

6'4" + 18" + 14" + 34" - 36" 15+ years
Important: Pad sizing can vary by brand and model. Some modern pads are sized by overall height rather than ATK measurement. Always check the manufacturer's specific sizing chart.

Goalie Gloves & Blockers Size Chart

How to Size Goalie Gloves:

Goalie gloves (catcher and blocker) are sized primarily based on the goalie's age and hand size. Unlike player gloves, they typically come in standard sizes rather than by hand measurements.

Size Category Hand Circumference Glove Size Age Range Height Range
Youth 5" - 6" Youth (Small) 4-8 years 3'0" - 4'6"
Youth 6" - 7" Youth (Regular) 8-10 years 4'0" - 5'0"
Junior 7" - 8" Junior 10-13 years 4'6" - 5'6"
Intermediate 8" - 9" Intermediate 13-15 years 5'4" - 5'10"
Senior 9" + Senior 15+ years 5'8" +
Tip: The catching glove should allow the hand to easily open and close without restriction. The blocker should protect the entire forearm area while allowing the wrist to move freely.

Goalie Chest Protectors Size Chart

How to Size Chest Protectors:

Chest protectors are sized based on the goalie's height, weight, and chest circumference. A properly fitted chest protector should cover from the collarbone to the waist and the entire shoulder area without restricting arm movement.

Size Height Weight Chest (inches) Age Range
Youth XS 3'0" - 3'6" 30-50 lbs 20" - 24" 4-6 years
Youth S 3'6" - 4'0" 45-65 lbs 24" - 26" 6-8 years
Youth M 4'0" - 4'6" 60-80 lbs 26" - 28" 8-10 years
Youth L 4'6" - 5'0" 75-100 lbs 28" - 30" 10-12 years
Junior S 5'0" - 5'4" 90-120 lbs 30" - 32" 12-14 years
Junior L 5'4" - 5'8" 110-140 lbs 32" - 36" 14-16 years
Intermediate 5'8" - 6'0" 130-160 lbs 36" - 40" 15-17 years
Senior S 5'10" - 6'2" 150-180 lbs 38" - 42" 16+ years

Senior L/XL 6'2" + 190+ lbs 42" + 16+ years
Important: A chest protector should provide complete coverage without restricting movement. You should be able to comfortably move your arms in all directions required for goaltending.

Goalie Pants Size Chart

Key Measurement: Waist circumference is the primary measurement for goalie pants sizing, but total length is also important.

How to Measure for Goalie Pants:

  1. Measure your waist circumference at the navel.
  2. For youth goalies, consider pants with some growth room, but make sure they provide adequate protection.
  3. Pant length should allow for full mobility while covering the knee caps when standing upright.
Size Waist (inches) Height Range Weight Range Age Range
Youth XS 20" - 22" 3'6" - 4'0" 40 - 55 lbs 5-7 years
Youth S 22" - 24" 4'0" - 4'6" 55 - 70 lbs 7-9 years
Youth M 24" - 26" 4'6" - 5'0" 70 - 85 lbs 9-11 years

Senior M 36" - 38" 6'0" - 6'3" 180 - 200 lbs 16+ years
Senior L 38" - 40" 6'1" - 6'4" 200 - 220 lbs 16+ years
Senior XL 40" - 44" 6'2" + 220+ lbs 16+ years
Fit Tip: Goalie pants should fit securely at the waist but allow enough room for hip and leg movement in the butterfly position. The bottom of the pants should overlap slightly with the top of the knee pads when standing.

Goalie Masks Size Chart

Key Measurement: Head circumference and face shape are the most important factors for goalie mask sizing.

How to Measure for a Goalie Mask:

  1. Measure your head circumference at its widest point (usually just above the eyebrows and ears).
  2. Consider face shape - some masks are better for rounder faces, others for narrower faces.
  3. Use the chart below to determine your mask size.
Size Head Circumference (inches) Age Range Notes
Youth (S) 19" - 20" 5-8 years For beginners and small youth players
Youth (M) 20" - 21" 8-10 years Most common youth size
Youth (L) 21" - 22" 10-12 years For larger youth players
Junior 22" - 23" 12-15 years Transition size between youth and senior
Senior (S) 23" - 24" 15+ years For smaller adult players
Senior (M) 24" - 25" Adult Standard adult size
Senior (L) 25" - 26" Adult For larger adult players
Important Safety Note: Never compromise on mask fit for the sake of cost savings. A properly fitted mask is essential for protecting against high-speed pucks and sticks.

Goalie Skates Size Chart

Key Difference: Goalie skates typically fit 1-1.5 sizes larger than standard player skates due to their wider boot design.

How to Size Goalie Skates:

  1. Measure your foot length from heel to toe in centimeters.
  2. Generally, subtract 1-1.5 sizes from your shoe size for goalie skates (e.g., shoe size 9 = skate size 7.5-8).
  3. Width is also important - goalie skates are available in D (standard), EE (wide), and sometimes wider options.
Shoe Size (US) Foot Length (cm) Goalie Skate Size Age Range
1 - 1.5 20 - 20.5 Y9 - Y9.5 5-6 years

13 - 13.5 29.6 - 30.1 8 - 8.5 Adult
Fit Note: Goalie skates should fit snugly but with enough room in the toe box for some movement. The heel should be locked in place.

Goalie Sticks Size Chart

Key Factors: Goalie stick sizing is based on the goalie's height and playing style. The paddle is the most important part to size correctly.

How to Size a Goalie Stick:

  1. Stand in your goalie stance wearing skates.
  2. The top of the paddle should be 1-2 inches below your blocker hand when in stance.
  3. The overall stick length is less important than proper paddle height.
Goalie Height Paddle Height Age Range Style Considerations
4'0" - 4'6" 21" 5-8 years Youth beginners
4'6" - 5'0" 23" 8-10 years Youth intermediate

6'2" - 6'4" 28" Adult Common pro size, aggressive butterfly
6'4"+ 28"+ Adult Tall goalies, standing style
Style Note: Butterfly-style goalies often prefer shorter paddle heights, while stand-up style goalies may prefer longer paddles.
